Bates Ballroom Social Dance!

Hello Everyone! The Bates Ballroom Team is so excited to be holding our first Social of the winter semester on January 22nd from 7-9 pm! These socials are a way to introduce you to the basics of a few fun ballroom dances, Rhumba and Swing, and just have a good time dancing since we can’t our regular dances this year!

We will be having a beginners lesson from 7:00-7:30, if you have never danced before, or never ballroom danced before, this would be a great introduction to the dances we’ll be playing later in the evening!

A few things to know about our social:

  • Please Wear Socks! Socks make some of the turning and gliding movements we use much easier, and are much more kind to your partner’s feet in case of a misstep.
  • You can come alone, with a partner, or with a whole group of friends! We accommodate large groups and single dancers all the time, and if we have an uneven number we would be happy to dance with you.
  • Dress up as much as you like! Us officers tend to put on a nice shirt and a good pair of trousers or a swishy skirt, but take this prompt however you see fit; if dressing up that day means a sweater and jeans, your rarely used formal dress, or stepping out in pajamas and a top hat, you are welcome to come dance with us! That being said, please do wear or bring the aforementioned socks and wear your mask during the entire event, as we will be inside.
  • Ballroom is a dance with physical contact, so please cover anywhere you don’t want to be touched skin to skin, especially along your arms and upper back.
  • If a dance isn’t working for you, feel free to ask us for modifications! Us Ballroom officers are very experienced in finding creative ways to modify traditional forms to suit individual dancers, to accommodate different comfort levels, relative mobility, and body shapes and sizes. We would love to help you find a ballroom dance that feel good for you!

You don’t need to sign up or RSVP, Just drop by on the 22nd, we’d love to see you!
